Best Budget Mic That Sounds Premium
This sub-₹7K microphone surprised me!!
So, I’ve finally decided to launch a couple of YouTube channels and commit to writing on Medium more seriously.
Sure, you can start with just a phone — and many people do — but out of passion (and a desire to give my audience better quality), I decided to invest in proper gear.
I picked up one of the best mirrorless cameras out there (I’ll talk about it in a separate post) for both video and photos.
The next step? Audio.
I already own the DJI Mic Mini, which is great, but during my research, I found that a proper desktop microphone is often better, especially for indoor shooting when there’s no audience watching me stumble over my words.
The problem? I’ve already spent a small fortune on gear (will share in a few days on both Medium and YouTube). I could’ve waited a few months to save up for the priciest mic, but I didn’t want to delay my YouTube and Medium plans any longer.
So, my mission was clear: find the best microphone possible on a budget.
I spent several days researching and went through dozens of YouTube reviews before finally deciding on the Fifine K688.
Here’s why it stood out for me:

The sound quality was outstanding — crisp, clear, and giving my voice a rich, captivating tone. However, it did pick up background noise from my fan and AC (the fan is especially loud). Fortunately, these can be reduced by tweaking the input audio settings and using Audacity’s noise reduction feature.
The mic also comes with a handy mute button and multiple ports, including an audio input/output level adjustment knob, XLR connection port, USB-C port for laptop connection, and a live audio monitoring port. The overall build quality feels solid, with accessories that are sturdy and well-made.
